Morning Commentary

Stock Market Cue

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

The market continues to edge higher, but it is still stuck between concrete resistance on the upside and sets for solid support on the downside. After the closing bell, American Express (AXP), which tumbled nine of the last ten times, reported earnings that finally got the street’s approval, and was one of the leaders in yesterday’s session. Also, Mattel (MAT) missed earnings, but provided the right kind of guidance, which should also be higher.

Stocks may take their cue from the debates. The election has everyone on the Street waiting with respect to a potential Clean Sweep by Democrats.  However, I don't think that's going to happen, yet, it's added an extra level of anxiety.

Meanwhile, housing data has merged with jobs data, with an assortment of other data points. It shows the economy limping along in the third quarter of 2016; it’s not rocketing higher as assumed by the Federal Reserve.

I continue to say that this market needs good news to be good news to break out, but with valuations where they are now, moving sideways might be the best bet.

Today’s Session

Markets are opening under some slight pressure this morning after news out from the ECB and the latest economic data was released.

The ECB President Mario Draghi, while leaving interest rates unchanged, maintained that there has been “no discussion” to extend its quantitative easing program beyond March 2017.  He did however say that they will do what is needed to support monetary policy. "

Initial claims were up 13,000 to 260,000 from the prior week’s revised 247,000. A better gauge, the 4-week moving average however increased 2,250 to 251,750 from the prior week’s revised 249,500.  This is the 85th consecutive week below 300,000.

The Philly Fed’s monthly index on regional manufacturing declined in October to 9.7 compared to the expectation of a drop to 7.  September’s 12.8 was the highest since February 2015.  New Orders and shipments came in strong, while employment declined.  Key highlights:

How can Wall Street support her?? Are they only interested in themselves? What about America? Without a strong America, at some point foreign investment will go away and so will Wall Street.

Trump was much more composed than usual and needed to be to have a chance. He pasted Hillary on many points and especially the DNC plotting to cause violence at his rallies even causing Chicago needing to be cancelled. But he missed a huge opportunity when asked if he would he accept the results regarding mentioning the video of voter fraud being orchestrated and paid for by the DNC being connected to her! We truly are now a banana republic thanks to the corruption reaching a level never before realized in this country. When the State Department and FBI are negotiating about the classification of documents the wheels have literally come off. The Democrats are masters of bait and switch. We have actually now seen video of people in Planned Parenthood selling baby body parts and the liberals in control of the courts in that part of the country are more concerned about charging the person who took the video without consent with a crime rather than the true crime being committed. I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone....

Bottom-line: No matter who wins, we're screwed!

Have a little faith, learn to believe. Donald Trump is making an extraordinary effort to save this nation. Hillary wants to continue the destruction of all we value. Support this man who does not come from the ranks of the politicians.

Trump managed to keep it reined in, for the most part. He showed some humility. I'd like to see more signs of a sense of humor from him.

Duterte is recommending that his countrymen learn Chinese rather than English; there go the Philippines.
This administration is determined to turn us into a third-rate banana republic.

Clearly Trump won. I disagree with the media reaction to his reservation about automatically accepting the "results" of the election. What Trump has done is light the fire under the whole question of Democrat efforts to control the outcome through fraud or other means. The Project Veritas videos are very convincing and are only confirmed by the instantaneous Dem reaction by firing Creamer and Focal. They want to put the lid on this fast. Donna Brazile was also incredible in her denial of feeding debate questions in advance to Hillary. I am a retired journalist and I'm ashamed of the rank sellout by so-called journalists to the left. The NYT should be renamed Pravda on the Hudson. Sorry, but Trump may be our last hope of returning government to the people.

Easy solution, Marlene Bertman. Just DVR Special Report and sit back and enjoy Charles. His show is better anyway.

I believe that the Democratic Party has, on the fringes, corrupted the election rolls with dead people this accusation was made in Texas during the election of L. Johnson, or people voting more than 1 time. Another way to corrupt the election is having the like of the black panthers standing guard in front of polling places, as it happen at the first election of Obama in Philadelphia, if my memory serve me right, the charges were dismissed. I believe he is right in not agreeing, blindly, to the verdict of the election.
